Actor Jo Hyun Jae talked about the production environment of Korean dramas, “Yongpal” included.
On the afternoon of the 5th in a cafe in Nonhyun, Gangnam, Seoul, an interview was held relating to the SBS drama “Yongpal” that recently finished. They talked about the current situation and filming episodes as well.
On this day Jo Hyun Jae was asked if he was satisfied with the overall environment of “Yongpal’s” production and this is what he said, “Overall, it wasn’t a pre-production. Even the viewers knew about this. “Let Joo Won get some sleep,” they said. “However, even if it is not a pre-produced drama the unexpected parts still came out really good.”
Jo Hyun Jae continued, “I really do think that Korea has one of the highest levels of drama production environment. Considering the fact that everything in drama production is rushed compared to other countries, it is really the best. I can’t say that there wasn’t any regrets, but I think those parts just cannot be helped,” he added.
In addition, Jo Hyun Jae said, “Of course, I also would like to participate in works that are pre-produced. As an actor I want to be able to know the end result and this is how I wish I could work. I envy those that are able to. I think that when the production environment gets better and better then the actors would be able to know the content beforehand while being able to act and still get plenty of sleep too,” he reveals his wish which got people’s attention.
Editor: Skipped one paragraph which is just a rehash of the plot of the drama.
Jo Hyun Jae is the half-brother of Yeo Jin (Kim Tae Hee) in the drama and he plays the role of Chairman Han Do Jun for Hanshin Group. He suffers from illegitimate child syndrome and to grab chairmanship of the Group he forced his younger sister into a vegetative state, he also habitually committed evil deeds. This is the first time Jo Hyun Jae has challenged the villain role since he began his acting career, and for his first time playing villain he has received positive reaction.

In essence, this is what the article says: JHJ believes that drama production environment in Korea is the best compared to other countries because even though everyone involved (cast and crew) in K-drama production is under tremendous pressure, they are still able to produce an output. (Sidenote: As to whether the output is high quality or low quality, you have to decide that for yourself. 😀 )
However, JHJ is not blind to the negative aspects of the live-shoot system, hence he wishes that drama production in SK would improve so that everyone, cast and crew alike, can work better and more comfortably.
In short, JHJ is praising the people involved in K-drama production for being able to perform even under tremendous pressure, but he knows that the drama filming system in SK needs to change.
