King’s Daughter: Episode 33 and 34 – Myeong Nong’s “shadow love” for Seolnan

“Shadow love” is a phrase coined by the producers of “King’s Daughter” to describe the nature of Myeong Nong’s “love” for Seolnan in this episode.

“Shadow love” because Myeong Nong keeps shadowing (or following) Seolnan wherever she goes, giving her support and encouragement whenever she needs it.

JHJ didn’t have much scenes in these 2 episodes, but what little there is has set women’s heart aflutter with anticipation.

HIGHLIGHTS

Bi Moon trainess are given another mission.  They will go undercover disguised as visitors and palace staff.  Anyone who fails in their task will be kicked out.  Seolnan gets to be a “frump” or “ugly lady” for this mission.

Training Officer:  No one stays in the palace other than the royals, staff and guards.  You may as well, in the position of trainees.  But anyone inside the palace without permission is expelled, and in some cases, killed.

Seolnan’s task is to collect the Crown Prince’s flowers and potpourri.

Seolnan goes to the flower shop to get the flowers and potpourri for the Crown Prince.  She was about to leave the shop after getting the flowers when a woman (whose back is turned to us) tells her that the Crown Prince’s flowers are always collected at 6 p.m.  The woman asked why the schedule was changed.

Seolnan:  I am sure I wouldn’t know.  I just go where I am told to go.

Seolnan was allowed to go.  However, on her way back to the Bi Moon training camp, she drops the potpourri.

Seolhee (to maid):  My dead little sister.  If people are born good or bad, she was born on the bad side.  She hated everything – her handicapped father, her shabby cottage, the trashy backwoods village, the boredom of their daily little lives.  Everyone loved her because she kept her thoughts to herself.  She would complain about our mother, but deep inside she knew our mother loved her.  My sister just needed to complain.  But there was one person that hated her above all others – her own self.  What my sister hated the most was herself.  But in fairness, if she had a family like the King and Crown Prince Myeong Nong, she would have been kind, she would have smiled.  She would have been good.

Comment:  At least Seolhee is aware that she is a bad person. 

Maid asks Seolhee if she misses her little sister.  Seolhee replies that she is already dead, even if she wanted to see her, she can’t anymore.

Seolhee finds the potpourri, picks it up and puts it up on a tree.

Seolnan realizes that she dropped the potpourri and goes looking for it.  After finding it, she hears Seolhee’s voice, she chases after Seolhee and maid.

Seolhee’s maid catches her, and questions Seolnan why she has been following them.  Seolnan finds out that the person she is following is the Princess.  Maid hails the Palace guards and reports Seolnan to be acting suspicious.  Seolnan cries and tries to wipe away her tears.  In so doing she erases a part of her disguise.  Maid notices this and was looking at her with even more suspicion.  Crown Prince arrives and rescues Seolnan.

Crown Prince (to Seolnan):  Well, deliver those flowers.  (To others) I brought her from outside.

Maid:  Another one?  First the laundress, then that Cook ….

Kangbok:  His Highness is very particular.

When the others have left, Seolnan pretends to faint.  Myeong Nong just allows her to fall on the ground.

Myeong Nong:  Did you think I’d catch you?   Whew, you are really ugly.

Seolnan (in a hurt voice):  I am supposed to look ugly.  I am really pretty.

Awww, did he feel guilty at teasing her when he heard the hurt in Seolnan’s voice?

Aish, stop smiling like that, Crown Prince.  You are confusing Seolnan (and me) when you smile so sweetly when you see her.

NEXT

Myeong Nong (to Kangbok):  I just happened to be there.  Not a word to anyone.  You know how inflexible he is (he is referring to Training Officer.)  If he knows I helped her, he will kick her out.

Kangbok:  Yes, Your Highness.  So, I should not mention that you followed Seolnan the whole day?

Myeong Nong:  I did what now?  I was just worried she’d cause trouble, is all.

Kangbok:  Yes, Your Highness.  Not a word to anyone.  (Then Kangbok smiles to himself. Hahahaha, Kangbok has his boss pegged.)

Editor:  Because of this, Korean fans have started calling the Crown Prince Stalker Myeong Nong. hahahaha

Seolnan makes it back to the training camp.  Knucklehead and Farty are happy to see her.

NEXT

The royal family portrait is finished. The King presents it to the Queen, the Crown Prince and Seolhee.  Seolhee gets her own copy since the portrait is her request.

Seolnan is practicing archery but she can’t hit the target.  She wounds her finger.  The Crown Prince arrives and uses his white hanky to wrap around Seolnan’s injured finger.

Episode 34

The Crown Prince wraps Seolnan’s bloodied finger with one of his white hankies.

Myeong Nong scolds Seolnan:  How long are you going to be this way?  I was told a woman cannot enter Bi Moon.  But I laughed it off.  How long are you going to make me look bad?

Seolnan:  I am sorry.

Myeong Nong:  Let us do this. If you make it through training and enter Bi Moon, I will give you a gift.  On the day you enter Bi Moon.  So start thinking what you want.

Crown Prince walks away, but gives instructions to Seolnan.

Myeong Nong:  Your feet must be firmly planted to give strength to your bow.

And because of the ending of  episode 33, our drama is #1 in real-time search on NAVER on the night episode 33 aired (November 18.)

I don’t have thoughts regarding these 2 episodes.  I just wanted to share the photos because this is a sweet episode for our OTP.  I just wish our Chicken Couple have more sweet moments like in these 2 episodes, because Myeong Nong and Seolnan are seriously great together.
